Command An Army Units — How to Evolve & Full Unit List
How to evolve units in Command An Army: the level-20 rule, all evolution chains including the Update 3 additions (Phalangite, Morningstar), the full unit list with summon odds — including the first 5★ unit — and how to get every unit.
Command An Army's unit roster runs on three axes: class (shields, spears, cavalry, archers), star rarity (1★ to 5★), and progression (evolve → ascend → equip inside your Star Limit). The roster roughly doubled with the NEW UNITS update, and Update 3 pushed it again — the first 5★ unit, two new evolution lines and Battle Pass-exclusive Mongol units are all live now. Everything below is documented from gameplay footage of the current version, with summon odds as shown on screen. Seen in footage · 2026-10-07

The Evolution Chains
Seven named lines evolve (the Crossbowman's endpoint got its name in Update 5 — see the Pavise Crossbowman). A unit must reach level 20 (by fighting) before it can evolve, and evolution costs in-game currency — Update 3 extended the Spear line and added a brand-new Mace line: Seen in footage · 2026-10-19
| Family | Evolution chain | Endgame |
|---|---|---|
| Archer line | Archer → Longbowman → Flaming Archer | Flaming Archer adds burn damage — the best ranged unit in the game |
| Cavalry line | Scout Rider → Cavalryman → Lancer | Lancer is banner-featured; the line is widely called the strongest evolution family |
| Shield line | Shieldman → Sentinel → Imperial Guard | Imperial Guard is the best cavalry counter in the game |
| Spear line | Spearman → Pikeman → Phalangite | Phalangite is NEW in Update 3 — a spear-wall unit multiple videos call the new defensive meta |
| Mace line | Mace → Morningstar | NEW in Update 3 — Morningstar keeps the shield-breaker role, strong DPS plus block damage |
| Mercenary line | Mercenary → Squire → Knight | NEW in Update 2 — post-patch Knight is called one of the strongest units in the game |
Two important notes: the 4★ summon units do not evolve — a Spartan or Berserker is finished at one tier, so ascension is its only growth path. The big Update 5 exception: the Crossbowman now evolves into the 4★ Pavise Crossbowman, the game's first evolution unit at 4★ rarity. Whether the new 5★ can evolve is not yet verified either way. Quick Answers
How do you evolve units? A unit must reach level 20 by fighting before it can evolve — then open the upgrade menu and evolve it with currency. The chains: Archer → Longbowman → Flaming Archer, Scout Rider → Cavalryman → Lancer, Shieldman → Sentinel → Imperial Guard, Spearman → Pikeman → Phalangite (new in Update 3), Mace → Morningstar (new in Update 3), and Mercenary → Squire → Knight. Four-star units never evolve. Seen in footage · 2026-10-07
How do you get the Flaming Archer? Level an Archer to 20 and evolve it into a Longbowman, then level the Longbowman to 20 and evolve again. The Flaming Archer adds burn damage and huge range — one creator timed the full climb at roughly 20 hours of play. Seen in footage · 2026-09-18
What is the best unit? Historically the four 4★ units — Spartan, Immortal, Samurai and Berserker — with the Flaming Archer as the best evolved unit. Update 3 just broke that ceiling: the first 5★ (Laestrygonian, 700 HP and 120 damage at level 1) is now the strongest card in the game if you can hit its 0.01% pull rate. Full verdicts and pull odds in the tier list. Community report · 2026-10-07
How do you get stronger without new units? Ascend duplicates (two copies merge, capped at Ascension 3), sell spares for gems, and remember the Star Limit rises every five player levels. Seen in footage · 2026-09-18
Full Unit List with Summon Odds
Summon odds are shown on the summon screen and change per banner — the same unit can be 0.15% on one banner and 0.19% on another, so treat these as the documented range. Seen in footage · 2026-09-15

The Standard Banner odds screen with per-unit pull percentages and the Luck Potion slot — footage by ItzVexo, September 2026.
| Unit | Stars | Class | Odds / notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Archer | 1★ | Archer | ~18.88% — ranged starter, placement cost 20 |
| Shieldman | 1★ | Shield | ~18.88% — cheap front line |
| Spearman | 1★ | Spear | ~18.88% — basic anti-cavalry |
| Mercenary | 1★ | Infantry | ~18.88% — army filler, sell or ascend |
| Scout Rider | 2★ | Cavalry | ~20% — mobility, first cavalry evolution |
| Halberdier | 2★ | Spear | Gacha — anti-cavalry upgrade |
| Spear Militia | 2★ | Spear/Shield | NEW UNITS — defensively similar to Shieldman |
| Crossbowman | 3★ | Archer | ~4% — reliable ranged support; Update 5 gave it an evolution: grind to level 20 and evolve into the 4★ Pavise Crossbowman |
| Mace | 3★ | Shock infantry | NEW UNITS — shield breaker; buffed with knockback/stun (Sept 23 footage), 399 HP at level 14 |
| Javeliner | 3★ | Ranged hybrid | NEW UNITS — low-range shield breaker, weak to arrows and cavalry; buffed in Update 4 (HP, damage and attack range up, Elite variant included) |
| Imperial Guard | 3★ | Shield | Shield-line evolution endpoint — best anti-cavalry unit |
| Flaming Archer | 3★ | Archer | Evolve Archer twice, or pull from banner — burn damage |
| Lancer | 3★ | Cavalry | Cavalry evolution endpoint, banner-featured |
| Pikeman | 3★ | Spear | Spearman evolution |
| Spartan | 4★ | Shield | ~0.15-0.19% — no evolution, holds a point better than anything |
| Immortal | 4★ | Melee | ~0.19% — high ceiling, long-term investment |
| Berserker | 4★ | Shock infantry | ~0.06% — highest DPS shown on screen (38), lowest health |
| Samurai | 4★ | Melee | ~0.06% — more range (7) than Berserker, more forgiving |
| Rapier | NEW · Update 2 | Melee (parry) | Base stats on screen: 205 HP, 19 damage, 1.1 attack interval, speed 23, range 6 — parries attacks, evolves at level 20 |
| Rapier Knight | NEW · evolved | Melee (parry) | Rapier's evolved form — parry reads 30% (up to 35% with Skill Tree nodes), range 8, top-four total DPS; the 100-hour tier video now calls it 'really underrated' |
| Squire | — | Mercenary evolution | Update 2 evolution step: Mercenary → Squire → Knight |
| Knight | — | Melee | Update 2 evolution endpoint of the Mercenary line — buffed in Update 4 (more HP/damage, block boost 33%→45%); called underrated even before the buff |
| Laestrygonian | NEW · Update 3 · 5★ | Shock DPS | First 5★ — 0.01% pull rate; screen at level 1: HP 700, DMG 120, DPS 34.3. Buffed post-launch (now hits 4 units, main hit ~160-190 + splash) — but only 9 of them, fragile without a wall in front; late-October ranked runs call the pairing OP |
| Khorchin | NEW · Update 3 | Horse archer | Battle Pass Mongol horse archer — just 15 units and the lowest damage and HP in the game; map-dependent (needs room to circle) and hurt by the shield meta; still called low-A for harassment |
| Bataar | NEW · Update 3 | Shock charger | Battle Pass Mongol unit — 'cavalry on foot': charge damage 47 that hits multiple units, but only 18 units, no shield, dies fast; micromanage-heavy, one 100-hour verdict says still not worth it |
| Myrmidon | NEW · Update 3 | Shield DPS | New shield unit — the 100-hour tier video's pick for best-in-slot DPS: 'Spartans but faster', 24 units, regenerating shield, splash/cleave damage to adjacent units |
| Phalangite | NEW · evolved | Spear wall | Pikeman's Update 3 evolution — screen at level 20: 347.6 HP, 36.5 damage, 2.0s attack interval, 71.4 block, 25 range, 28 unit count. Nerfed twice since launch (Update 3 tuning cut damage and capped the charge at 3 targets; Update 4 slowed the attack cooldown to 2.4s) — still the pure-defense pick |
| Morningstar | NEW · evolved | Shock infantry | Mace's Update 3 evolution — screen at level 20/A3: 476.1 HP, 41.3 damage, HIGHEST block damage in the game, 1.6s attack interval, 7 range, 25.8 DPS, 24 units; ~100 shield damage breaks most shields in one hit |
| Pavise Crossbowman | NEW · Update 5 · 4★ evolved | Archer | The game's first 4★ evolution — evolve a level-20 Crossbowman. Early testers call it 'crazy OP' and say it 'might be better than the Flaming Archers'; full stats pending on-screen verification |
Tier Consensus (September 2026)
⚠️ Update 3 just rearranged this. The consensus below predates the Mongols update — the 5★ Laestrygonian now sits above the 4★s, two new evolution lines (Phalangite, Morningstar) and the Battle Pass Mongols (Khorchin, Bataar) are still being placed by the community. Treat the table as the pre-Update 3 baseline; the live shakeup is covered in the Update 3 page and the tier list.
Three community tier lists from mid-September broadly agree on the shape of the meta — full per-unit verdicts live on the tier list: Community report · 2026-09-15
| Tier | Units | Why |
|---|---|---|
| S | Spartan, Immortal, Samurai, Berserker, Flaming Archer | The four 4★s plus the best evolved ranged unit |
| A | Crossbowman, Scout Rider, Halberdier, Imperial Guard, Lancer | Strong evolutions and the reliable ranged option |
| B | Shieldman, Spearman, Mercenary, Javeliner, Spear Militia | Filler and situational answers — replace as your roster grows |
| C | Archer (raw) | Weak as a raw unit — but the best long-term evolution investment in the game |
The Archer row deserves a second read: every tier list ranks raw Archer near the bottom, yet its evolution chain ends at the Flaming Archer — first burn-damage unit, huge range, better damage than the Crossbowman, and the unit most often called the best in the game after the 4★s. One content creator reported the full Archer → Longbowman → Flaming Archer climb took roughly 20 hours of gameplay. Seen in footage · 2026-09-15
Command An Army Unit Counters — Who Beats Who
- Block damage beats shields. Shield breakers (Mace, Javeliner) and block-damage units (Samurai) exist to melt shield walls — this is explicitly an attacker's toolset. Seen in footage · 2026-09-15
- Braced spears beat cavalry. Charging cavalry into braced Spearmen or an Imperial Guard wall is how horse armies die. Cavalry should hunt archers, isolated units and player assassinations instead. Seen in footage · 2026-09-15
- Shock infantry beats cavalry. Berserkers and Samurai shred horses in melee — but both die fast to focused archer fire, so they want shields in front of them. Seen in footage · 2026-09-15
- Archers beat anything standing still. Ranged stacks cook slow pushes; the answer to them is cavalry in their backline, not a frontal charge. Seen in footage · 2026-09-15
- The circle formation stops cavalry charges — do not charge a circle with horses. The battle-level playbook lives on the formations page. Seen in footage · 2026-09-15
Progression Systems Cheat Sheet
- Evolve: unit level 20 + currency → next form in its chain (4★s never evolve). Seen in footage · 2026-09-15
- Ascend: two copies of the same unit merge into Ascension 1; capped at Ascension 3. Ascended copies are marked on the card. Seen in footage · 2026-09-15
- Sell duplicates for gems — a spare unit converts back to currency (500 gems for some 3★s). Seen in footage · 2026-09-15
- Pity: a guaranteed 4★ at 400 summons on a banner, and the counter persists across sessions. Seen in footage · 2026-09-15
- Luck potion: consumable that boosts a summon session — top up with gems from active codes first. Seen in footage · 2026-09-15
Update 2 Changes (September 19)
Exclusive Pack — 1,000 Robux Limited-Time Bundle
A limited-time Exclusive Pack appeared during the Update 2 window: 1,000 Robux for three brand-new 3★ units — Elite Javelin, Imperial Halberdier and Rapier (whose evolved form is the Rapier Knight). Seen in footage · 2026-09-26
Community reception is mixed-to-negative: the creator who bought it on camera "paid 800 Robux" up front and called the Rapier Knight "kind of selling my game," rating the Rapier units "kind of dumb" in battle while acknowledging "these Squires were good." The value call is yours — the units are exclusive to this pack, so if you want them, the window is now. Community report · 2026-09-26
The GUILD/RANKED update rewrote part of this database, verified from launch-day footage: Seen in footage · 2026-09-19
- Two new units: Rapier and Rapier Knight. The Rapier's defining stat is its parry (screen shows 20%), with 205 HP / 19 damage / speed 23 / range 6. It evolves at level 20 into the Rapier Knight, which tier lists slot at A tier — the parry is strong but the unit is not recommended as a ranked pick by the same lists.
- Mercenary finally has a family. The new Mercenary → Squire → Knight evolution line turned the old filler unit into a stepping stone toward a Knight that post-patch footage calls one of the strongest units in the game.
- Archers got nerfed. Update 2 cut Archer range ("a mad nerf" per competitive coverage) — archers stay top-tier, but the window for counter-play against them just widened.
- Ranked framing: competitive tier lists are already being rewritten "for ranked" — expect the meta above to keep shifting through the event window.
Update 3 — Mongols Update (Live)
Update 3 shipped September 22-23 and it is the biggest content drop in the game's history: the first 5★ unit, two new evolution lines, Battle Pass-exclusive Mongol units, a per-unit Skill Tree, an AFK server and auto-delete. The full breakdown lives on the Update 3 page; here is what it means for the roster. Seen in footage · 2026-10-07

The Update 3 banner screen: the first 5★ unit Laestrygonian at 0.01% pull rate with 700 HP and 120 damage at level 1 — footage from launch-window coverage, October 2026.
The first 5★ — Laestrygonian
The rarity ceiling broke. Laestrygonian (the name matches the launch code LAESTRYGONIAN) sits in the banner at a 0.01% pull rate, and the card reads HP 700, DMG 120, attack interval 3.5s, range 35, DPS 34.3 at level 1 — one creator burned 17,399 gems without hitting it. A 4★ pity exists at 400 summons; whether the same pity protects 5★ attempts is not verified yet. Seen in footage · 2026-10-07
It launched rough and got buffed. A 100-hour tier video that maxed every new unit says it "was really bad as well at the start, but they buffed it" — Laestrygonian now hits four units instead of three, with a main hit around 160-190 plus ~80-90 splash to adjacent units, and it breaks blocks in one shot. The catch: there are only 9 of them, so running them into multiple enemy units alone gets them shredded — pair them with a Phalangite or Imperial Guard wall and they become a genuinely strong shock DPS. Community report · 2026-10-09
Battle Pass Mongols — Khorchin and Bataar
Launch coverage is explicit that the new Mongol units are only obtainable through the Battle Pass (quests → tiers → units), at least at launch. The 100-hour tier video settles their identities and first verdicts: Community report · 2026-10-09
- Khorchin is a horse archer — the "new horse archery everybody saw in the sneak peeks". Just 15 units with the lowest damage and lowest HP in the game, it wins by being an annoying fly that circles you — but only on open maps (it "runs circles on plains"; on castle maps it "will really suck"), and the current shield meta starves it of targets. Verdict: low-A, map-dependent.
- Bataar is "cavalry on foot" — a charge expert: charge damage ~47 that hits multiple units like a horse charge, with high block break — but only 18 units, no shield, and it dies fast if left engaged. It demands constant micromanagement (charge in, charge out); the same verdict calls it "still not really worth using in my experience," though its launch screen read (492.7 HP at level 1, rush 43) keeps it interesting. Seen in footage · 2026-10-07
- A third Mongol-style charger appears in the tier video's captions ("Noore") — 20 units, ~340 HP, a horrendous 14 block damage, but a super-low charge cooldown with a rush bonus for repeated charges. The auto-captions garble its name, so it stays off the roster until it is named clearly on screen.
Two new evolution lines — Phalangite and Morningstar
The update log on camera listed new evolutions for the Mace and the Pikeman, and both endpoints are now documented in footage:
- Pikeman → Phalangite. A pure spear-wall unit: at level 20 it shows 347.6 HP, 36.5 damage, 2.0s attack interval, 71.4 block, 25 range and 28 unit count. Its three hold-position modes include an "uncrossable wall" of spears — it launched as undisputed S tier ("the actual star of this update"), got nerfed within two weeks (less damage, and its charge now caps at 3 targets with ~4-5 damage on the third), and still rates A tier as the best pure defense pick: 28 units, a shield that makes it arrow-immune, and excellent range. Seen in footage · 2026-10-09
- Mace → Morningstar. The shield-breaker line grows up, with full screen stats now: at level 20 / Ascension 3 it reads 476.1 HP, 41.3 damage, the HIGHEST block damage in the game, 1.6s attack interval, 7 range, 25.8 DPS and 24 units — around 100 damage to shields breaks most walls in one hit. It has no range advantage and is weak defending, so ranked runs pair it with shield escorts. Seen in footage · 2026-10-09
Also in the roster
- Myrmidon — the 100-hour tier video's dark horse: "my favorite unit this update… best in slot DPS". The verdict reads like a better Spartan — "Spartans but faster" with 24 units (four more than Spartan's 20), a regenerating shield, tight formations, and splash/cleave damage (~25% extra to adjacent units). Launch coverage had called it "awkward"; the October verdict calls it seriously underrated. Community report · 2026-10-09
- Skill Tree (live) — per-unit skill nodes funded by skill crystals (the Update 3 codes all include them, and 10 crystals cost 450 Robux in the store). Nodes can be reset, some trade HP for buffs — and they move real numbers: the Rapier Knight's parry goes from 30% to 35% with tree investment. Seen in footage · 2026-10-09
- Ranked queue times — a launch-window reviewer couldn't get a ranked match because "the queue time was just way too long" — expect long ranked queues right after major updates. Community report · 2026-10-07
- October balancing waves — the meta is being tuned live: Laestrygonian buffed (3→4 targets), Phalangite nerfed, Spear Vanguard's HP and damage quietly nerfed ("they didn't announce it" per the 100-hour video), and Imperial Halberdier's charge damage trimmed. Treat any stat table, including ours, as a snapshot. Community report · 2026-10-09
One pre-launch rumor resolved: the September leak about "Courtmens" (Mongol-style cavalry "better than Spartans and Samurai combined") described the same wave of Mongol cavalry that shipped as the Battle Pass units — but whether "Courtmens" was an early name for Khorchin/Bataar or a cut unit is unconfirmed; we have dropped the leaked name from the roster until it appears in game. Community report · 2026-10-07
Read: every number above is read from launch-window footage and labeled by evidence tier; Battle Pass reward details and 5★ pity behavior are still being verified as more players unlock them.
What We Have Not Verified Yet
Exact evolution currency costs per step, whether the 5★ Laestrygonian is covered by a pity guarantee (the 400-summon 4★ pity is confirmed), the Pavise Crossbowman's full stat block, the two new classes' unlock costs and weapon stats, full per-banner odds tables, and Battle Pass tier/reward details beyond "units come from the pass" — all blank until verified on screen. A table full of invented numbers is worse than an honest gap. Inferred · 2026-10-19
